Freehold township high school 19802/22/2024 Thus was born Around the Corner Art Center. Responding to customer demand, they ultimately added a range of art classes in 1990 and moved into larger space in Freehold Township in 2003 “that was literally ‘around the corner’ from our previous frame shop,” he said. “In 1980, I ended up joining him in his frame shop, where we also sold art supplies and hosted some art-related events, but people were constantly asking us about art classes,” Kolessar said. “After college, I worked in a restaurant for years and was actually thinking of opening a restaurant,” Kolessar said of his original career plans. But a discussion with Merrill Tilker, a friend and former classmate who owned a frame shop in Freehold Township where Kolessar was a customer, would soon change that. “I used to draw with my dad and all throughout school, teachers always complimented my artwork,” the 55-year-old lifelong Freehold resident shared.īut while he had natural abilities in the field and even secured an associate’s degree in art from Brookdale Community College in Middletown, it was a twist of fate that led him to a career in the art world. FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - Painter and teacher Mark Kolessar said he’s always been artistic.
